I have been a part of the Boltz Entertainment team since July 2025. Write Warz was in early access when I joined, and we are currently working towards the full release. I have been leading the programming charge, communicating with our artists, sound designer, producer, and other programmers in order to stay on track and create something fun and cohesive. I have updated, reworked, or changed almost every system of the game.

Major Contributions

Common Themes

  • There are four new common themes that were released in December. Each one has a unique premise that changes how the base game is played as well as a fun minigame that can shake things up.
  • I was in charge of creating the encrypted word system in the Apocalyptic theme as well as creating the input and word recognition systems for Word Zombies.
  • I created the Goblins Attack minigame for the Fantasy theme.
  • I created the Word Guess minigame for the Sci-Fi theme.
  • I created the Lexicon Hold 'Em minigame for the Western theme.

Elves vs Samurai

  • I was in charge of spearheading the development of an entirely new theme with completely new visuals and gameplay elements.
  • The Elves vs Samurai theme was my first major undertaking back in July and August. I created new systems that seamlessly blended into the existing codebase with minimal friction, refactoring when necessary. I was in charge of evaluating, providing critique upon, and implementing new 2D art, VFX, and sound effects for the theme.
  • At regular intervals, I was in charge of running internal tests to accumulate feedback on implemented systems.

System Reworks

  • Write Warz looks and plays completely different than when I started back in July. Almost every major system has gone through a make-over:
  • Most recently, I completely overhauled how the voting and tie-breaker sequences play out due to internal and external feedback.
  • The writing state of the game has changed to increase the readability of the current story and your current typed sentence.
  • I implemented a new marketplace to align with a new monetization model.
  • I setup a new system for choosing and loading your custom game settings.
  • I was responsible for many small fixes and tweaks to elevate the player experience and eliminate bugs.

Gameplay

  • I work extensively with Unity's UI components to ensure everything works in 16:9, 16:10, and widescreen resolutions.
  • I use Unity Netcode for GameObjects to manage and sync players.
  • Created a set of unique minigames for Elves vs Samurai.
  • Finished the implementation of Bumbly's Rockin' Adventure and the Keytar Hero minigame.
  • Created the minigames for the four new common themes: Word Zombies, Lexicon Hold 'Em, Goblins Attack, and Word Guess.
  • I have been responsible for most new VFX implementations.
  • I was also responsible for most of the new SFX implementations.

Social and Marketing

  • I was in charge of setting up specific builds of the game for Legends of Avantris to play on stream in August and December
  • I was a participant in in-house streams on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam to promote major changes and big updates.

Project Management

  • I use Trello to manage my own tasks and tasks for other programmers, artists, and sound designers.
  • I am responsible for keeping up with the full-time and intern programmers. I ensure they are making adequate progress on their designated tasks and am always available if they need assistance of any kind.

What I Learned

Write Warz is the first commercial game I have programmed for. We have made major changes and I am happy to be involved with the new direction of the project. So far, I have elevated my ability to recognize and program specific design patterns, increased my project management skills, and become a more organized person in all regards.
